We are looking for a Solution Architect in our IT Business Solutions team.

As an IT Solution Architect, you will be accountable for the architecture of a diverse range and complex set of projects or programs related specifically to the American Modern Insurance Group’s project portfolio. You will also be responsible for delivering application and data management projects, working closely with the Enterprise Architecture team, IT Services,  IT Security & Risk Management, Service Delivery, Application Teams and external managed service providers and vendors globally, to achieve successful project outcomes including the management of diverging interests of various stakeholders. 

Solution architects provide the technical leadership, facilitation, analysis and design tasks required for the transformation of business Integration / Cloud capabilities and corresponding application portfolio / tech stack. They create deliverables that help develop target-state guidance (transformation roadmaps and standards, guidelines) across the enterprise, in order to enable business strategy and successfully deliver projects.

Your Job:
  • Support of the strategic direction of technology investments to assist in the development of the enterprise architecture and maximize the return on technology investment
  • Accountability for the development, testing and implementation of project solutions and capabilities, leveraging existing architectural patterns whenever possible, and reporting on delivery commitments to ensure capabilities are implemented as expected and to agreed timeframes
  • Accountability for detailed component specifications and translating these into detailed designs
  • Responsibility for the implementation of technology solutions and mapping the business requirements to systems/technical requirements to ensure alignment with the enterprise architectural plan
  • Responsibility for the adherence to appropriate standards (performance, monitor capability, audit acceptability, secure environment)
  • Responsibility for the balance between functional, service quality and systems management requirements
  • Usage of appropriate tools, including logical models of components and interfaces, to contribute to the development of systems architectures in specific business or functional areas.
  • Managing requirements to the program and platform backlog
  • Support of the strategic direction of technology investments to assist in the development of the enterprise architecture and maximize the return on technology investment


Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:
  • University degree or similar qualification 
  • 5+ years as a Solution Architect or in a similar role
  • Deep knowledge in cloud / service-based architecture based on Azure and AWS Technologies (compute / storage / security / monitoring / logging / automation / …)
  • Prior hands on experience working with technologies like Azure Services, Amazon Services, B2C platforms, PaaS and SaaS
  • Prior hands on experience working with concepts like Hub & Spoke Architecture, Cloud Security Framework, Hybrid Cloud Architecture, Cloud Automation, Cloud Monitoring, MultiCloud integration.
  • Prior hands on experience working with Data Center Migration to cloud
  • Experience with migration core business applications from on premise data center to AWS / Azure while maintaining performance and availability SLAs.
  • Deep knowledge of processes and capabilities required to run a global & distributed platform in a multi-product environment 
  • Experience in database technologies such as MS SQL, Azure SQL, Oracle & Big Data solutions (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Databricks,…) 
  • Experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints
  • Track record of successful implementations that delivered value to the business, resulting in measurable business outcomes 
  • Deep knowledge about patterns, UML and agile development practices as well as DevOps principles and corresponding technologies (e.g. Azure DevOps)
  • Ideally, knowledge of business processes in the primary and specialty insurance industry 
  • Consulting and collaborative working style creating a culture of accountability and sharing 
  • Thought leadership – ability to monitor market trends and to drive creative thinking on future technology capabilities which will help to increase the business value of Munich RE. 
  • Ability to manage and supervise small to medium sized development & operations teams 
Desirable Experience
  • AWS or Azure application architectural design experience and integration experience with cloud and on premise based applications
  • Patterns for implementing Customer Identity Access Management (CIAM)
  • API design/catalog management in Azure
  • Guidewire Insurance Suite
