Olefin Subject Matter Expert


Solomon, the leading performance improvement company for the global energy industry, is seeking candidates for a Subject Matter Expert position within its Chemicals business unit. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in support of the Solomon Worldwide Olefin Plant Performance Analysis (Olefin Study), the industry standard for olefin benchmarking. This integral position within the Chemicals business unit will manage Olefin Study technical design, benchmarking methodology & calculations, and insight generation to increase long-term value for study participants. In addition, the position will leverage Solomon’s extensive olefin database to develop enhanced offerings to address current and future industry challenges. The successful candidate will integrate hands-on technical skills, operational experience, and knowledge of manufacturing performance management to sustain and grow Solomon’s olefin franchise.


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
Work Experience
  • 15+ years of career experience in a chemical operating company
  • 10+ years of olefin manufacturing experience in technical support and/or production roles
  • Significant experience in developing and implementing improvements to increase olefin plant competitiveness
  • Significant experience with olefin plant performance management, including strategic planning, goal setting, metric design, implementation, and stewardship
  • 15+ years of olefin manufacturing experience in technical support and/or production roles
  • Career tenure spanning multiple olefin production facilities
Technical Skills
  • Strong technical understanding of olefin manufacturing from an operational and asset perspective
  • Strong data and performance analysis skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Hands-on experience with olefin process simulation, yield modeling, and/or feedstock optimization
  • Strong knowledge of olefin manufacturing economics and capital investment economics
  • Working knowledge of olefin manufacturing functions including plant operations, maintenance and reliability, technical support, and planning & optimization
  • Knowledge of Solomon metrics
Non-Technical Skills
  • Capable of representing complex technical concepts in simple business terms
  • Strong client interaction skills while exhibiting a high degree of customer empathy
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving results via team collaboration
  • Desired:
  • Career tenure spanning assignments in multiple countries
  • Candidate must be willing to travel approximately 20% of time, both domestically and internationally
  • Preferred location is Dallas, Texas
