Primary Objectives:
HSB Canada’s Head Office Engineering Department (HOED) is our center of competence for technical consultancy and risk assessment of highly exposed risks across North America. Our multi-disciplined team of experienced engineers assess operational risks, equipment breakdown, property loss control, and inherent hazards across a multitude of industrial processes. Our expertise supports our Underwriters, Claims Adjusters, Brokers, and Insureds in evaluating risk and recommending meaningful loss prevention practices.
We are seeking a detail oriented and highly organized Engineering Manager. In addition to managing a team of engineers, the incumbent will oversee our department’s daily operations, support and develop our team of engineering experts, drive operational excellence including QA/QC, and implement strategic initiatives. This position is based at our Head Office location and reports to the Director, Engineering .
Job Responsibilities:
- Ultimately responsible for the satisfactory completion of HOED deliverables.
- Ensure service levels to internal and external customers meet departmental objectives.
- Manage assignments of engineering work requests to ensure appropriate resource utilization.
- Provide guidance and support, training and development for newer team members.
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to manage the department’s training and development needs.
- Oversea QA/QC as well as peer review activities necessary to ensure the quality of Engineering work meets stakeholder requirements.
- Oversee housekeeping and document control of HOED systems, documents, and assets.
- Support Director, Engineering in executing department strategies and initiatives with oversight and guidance from VP, Engineering.
- Represent the Company at professional forums and industry events.
- Perform other related duties as needed, contributing to Company successes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, P.Eng designation in good standing is an asset,
- 12+ years of relevant professional experience with at least 5 years in the insurance industry,
- Demonstrated experience in managing a team and coordinating assignments and daily tasks,
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present to Senior Executives,
- Bilingualism (English / French) is an asset,
- In-depth understanding of risk engineering and loss control, specifically related to equipment breakdown and property insurance lines,
- Experience in heavy industry sectors, such as oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing, providing a solid foundation for understanding the unique challenges and requirements of these industries,
- Understanding of facility operations, maintenance, asset care, risk management and capital project execution,
- Strong organizational skills to stay efficient and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment,
- Able to travel within North America and internationally.
