Primary Objectives:
The AVP of Cyber Practice will be a key part of HSB Canada’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and will be responsible for driving profitable growth of HSB’s Cyber portfolio across Commercial and Personal Lines in Canada. The AVP will work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including Client Executives and Business Development partners, Corporate Underwriting and HSB’s Global Cyber Centre of Excellence to help optimize the strategy for HSB Canada’s Cyber business. This will include contributing to defining underwriting, product and market strategies through objective analysis and data-driven decision making.
As a people leader, the AVP of Cyber Practice will be responsible for developing and mentoring a team of junior Cyber Specialists. This individual will also be an active partner of HSB’s Client Executives and Business Development partners, working collaboratively to structure reinsurance treaty products and quote transactional policies to drive profitable revenue growth. This role will have a seat and active voice in HSB’s Cyber board and the broader Munich Re Cyber community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with Distribution stakeholders, Pricing Actuaries and Underwriting to define the growth strategy for HSB’s Cyber portfolio
- Partner and collaborate with stakeholders across the HSB and Munich Re organizations, to garner input, solution, share ideas, and gain insights
- Manage and monitor performance of the Cyber portfolio, conducting audits, and implementing timely actions to ensure profitable results
- Set product strategy, product enhancements, manage day to day underwriting activities, and respond to issues that may arise
- Collaborate with distribution stakeholders and partners to structure reinsurance treaty products and quote transactional cyber business
- Lead and mentor a team of junior cyber specialists
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience is required
- 10+ years’ experience in underwriting or other relevant experience in the insurance industry is required, with a proven ability to lead a product and influence positive outcomes
- A Master's degree, MBA, or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) accreditation is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in Cyber Insurance and preferably Tech E&O policies
- Effective time management skills, to include prioritizing and bringing about decisions
- Entrepreneurial, self-driving, proactive, and able to work in an environment of change
- Ability to train others and pass on expertise
- Work well both independently and in cross-disciplinary teams
