The Sustainability Business Leader must understand the issues facing the global industry, the strategies being deployed by our clients and other companies, and how Solomon’s new and current product and service offerings can drive improvement for our clients. This position will be responsible for identifying areas for clients’ improvement and for driving outcomes that lead to improved business performance.
Solomon’s vision and strategic objectives rely on the power of technology to improve our existing offerings and expand our service lines to deliver greater value to our internal and external stakeholders. Thus, the Sustainability Leader must have knowledge of adopting technology and its impact on the financial performance or our products and services.
This role is to focus on decision-making. Candidate must possess big-picture thinking and the ability to orchestrate with talents across all the activities (discovery, delivery, optimization) and domains leading to product success (strategy, tech, design, data, marketing, process). The initial focus of this position will be to understand the needs of the global Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemicals, and Power Generation industries, develop the necessary industry relationships, develop Solomon sustainability offerings and go-to-market strategy, and generally deliver on Solomon’s overall sustainability strategic initiative. A medium-term goal is to diversify and begin providing similar sustainability related services to mining and metals, chemicals, and other industry sectors.
This position will report directly to Solomon’s COO.
As a member of the Operations Team, candidate will work with Business Unit leaders, Product Management, Technology, and clients to define needs and lead the development of Solomon’s sustainability products and services. Candidate will also lead the development and execution of the approved Sustainability business plan to achieve the strategy and achieve financial and other business results.
Partnering with Solomon’s Executive Team and Commercial Team, this role will lead the process of building client relationships and other strategic relationships that will accelerate the growth of the Sustainability business line. Actively meet with client executives and support Solomon’s Marketing and Business Development teams to position Solomon’s offerings and support closing sales.
Candidate will advise Solomon’s Executive Team on building internal talent and competencies in key areas needed to deliver Sustainability services to clients. This can include organic growth, acquisition, and/or building of key external partnerships and ecosystems. In addition, this role will assist with recruitment of key personnel and advise Solomon’s Executive Team on building cooperative relationships with third-party organizations, service providers, technology providers, etc., with the goal of growing the business and delivering comprehensive solutions to clients globally.

Develops the strategy and executive client relationships to guide the development of Solomon’s sustainability offerings. This will include the possible expansion of offerings into market segments adjacent to Oil & Gas and Petrochemicals, such as Power Generation, Water Supply, and others.
Develops new offerings and enhances existing offerings to meet the sustainability needs of Solomon’s clients per our sustainability strategy.
Develops messaging and the go-to-market strategy and plan for our sustainability offerings.
Oversees, advises, and engages in client engagements to ensure proper objectives and deliverables are met.
Comprehensive understanding of the sustainability issues facing the Oil & Gas and Petrochemicals global markets and the strategies being used to address these issues.
Understanding of ESG reporting requirements and prevalent structures used today by industry and the financial markets.
Familiar with the types of disclosures that companies must make regarding their climate ambitions and ESG reporting and how such disclosures impact companies’ ESG scores/ratings.
Ability to develop high impact business analyses and business cases for both internal initiatives and client engagements.
Ability to effectively interact with global, multi-cultural clients at an executive level.
Ability to engage and consult effectively with clients.
Ability to lead an initiative within a matrix organization, with both direct and indirect resources.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
High degree of collaboration skills.
Strong ability to craft appropriate market messaging to position our strategy and offering.
Industry relationships with major operating companies and industry advisory groups (e.g., AFPM, API, Concawe, etc.).
Direct experience and involvement with company directors, compliance officers, government relations, investor relations, and the financial analyst community.
Bachelors or master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline. Degrees in economics or social science will also be considered.
Master’s Degree (MBA or relevant degree).
A total of 20+ years in the Oil & Gas, Refining, or Petrochemicals industries, both directly within these industries (5+ years minimum) and/or consulting to these industries. Experience in other types of extractive industries, such as mining and metals, will also be considered.
At least 5 years in a related sustainability management or leadership role within the target industries or consulting to these industries.
Previous experience or exposure with M&A work and business growth through acquisitions.
This position will be based out of Solomon’s Dallas Headquarters or Houston location. Europe will be considered as well.
