HSB Solomon Associates LLC, a subsidiary of Hartford Steam Boiler and Munich Re, is seeking candidates for a Principal Technical Manager – Olefin Study position to work in a dynamic, fast-paced business environment. The Olefins Principal Technical Manager is responsible for providing guidance and analysis to the olefins industry Comparative Performance Analysis (CPA) studies and selected consulting projects. This position resides within Solomon’s Chemicals Business Unit, and it is integral to the overall management of the Olefins Benchmark Study.
Responsibilities
- Olefin Technical Roadmap
- Responsible for stewarding the technical roadmap of Solomon’s industry leading olefin benchmarking study to enable long-term market growth and business objectives
- Owns and leads enhancement of the Worldwide Olefin Plant Performance Analysis (Olefin Study) technical scope, benchmarking methodology & calculations, and study insight generation
- This position resides within Solomon’s Chemicals Business Unit, and it is integral to the overall management of the Olefin Study
- Industry Trends & Market Intelligence
- Responsible for keeping abreast of olefin industry trends and key client initiatives and applying that market intelligence to evolve the Olefin Study offering
- Conceptualizes, defines, and implements changes to study scope, metrics, and deliverables to address current and future industry challenges
- Increases client value by expanding and deepening the insights that clients receive from study participation
- Application of New Technologies & Analytical Methodologies
- Responsible for applying new technologies and analytical methodologies to uncover new classes of insights from Solomon’s intellectual property and databases
- This mandate includes, but is not limited to, new insights pertaining to sustainability for the olefin industry
- Responsible for defining infrastructure improvements that increase the efficiency of both client study participation and Solomon study execution, as well as reducing the effort required to obtain meaningful performance insights.
- Responsible for applying new technologies and analytical methodologies to uncover new classes of insights from Solomon’s intellectual property and databases
- Internal Collaboration
- Proactively collaborate with the Olefin Study Manager, Benchmarking Product Manager, Executive Vice President of Intellectual Property, and Technology Team in coordinating technical study improvement activities in alignment with company timelines and resource availability
- Supplements the Olefin Study consultant team during peak execution phases of the 2-year study cycle, including input data review, study deliverables creation, and client results presentations
Education
- Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
Work Experience
- Required:
- 12+ years of career experience in a chemical operating company or petrochemicals division of an integrated oil company
- 8+ years in olefin manufacturing experience in technical support, process economics, and/or production roles
- Significant experience with olefin plant performance management, including strategic planning, goal setting, metric design, implementation, and stewardship
- Preferred:
- 15+ years of olefin manufacturing experience in technical support, process economic, and/or production roles
- Career tenure spanning multiple olefin production facilities
- Career tenure spanning assignments in multiple countries

- Olefins Processing – Hands-on experience with olefins process simulation, yield modeling, and/or feedstock optimization
- Olefins Manufacturing – Strong knowledge of olefins manufacturing economics, cost structure competitiveness, and capital investment justification
- Olefins Manufacturing Functional Knowledge – Working knowledge of olefins manufacturing functions, including plant operations, maintenance and reliability, technical support, and planning & optimization
- Technical Communications – Ability to communicate complex technical concepts into simple business terms
- Preferred:
- Understanding of Solomon Olefin Study and metrics from client perspective
