Munich Re Specialty Group North America (MRSG N.A.) is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and customs bonds with in-house claims solutions.
We are seeking a full time Specialty Underwriting Assistant to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services division to be a hybrid employee in one of our US offices (Schaumburg, IL, or Houston, TX).
Job Profile
- Support the SIS Specialty Underwriting team as assigned.
- Maintain a full understanding of business process and service standards.
- Adapt to evolving processes, procedures and systems to adhere to highest and most current servicing standards.
- Monitor workload and provide feedback to Business Service Manager if backlogs or bottlenecks develop.
- Assist with training new employees on company standards and procedures to ensure the highest level of service.
- Follow all company procedures and guidelines and complete all required courses related to the same as designated by the Company.
- Identify process/workflow gaps, needs, obstacles and pitfalls and communicate them to supervising manger.
- Support positive and productive team morale.
- Engage in industry events as requested and remain current on both internal and external trends and needs.
- Maintain strong positive working relationships with key members of other departments and foster mutually beneficial communication and collaboration across functions.
- Performing underwriting support activities associated with information gathering of new business, renewals, and mid-term changes, as well as electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter.
- Accurately clear new business submissions in a timely manner with the highest level of attention to detail.
- Accurately issue quotes, binders, policy wordings and endorsements for underwriting review and approval.
- Understand and follow the policies, procedures, and business processes as defined in departmental service standards or as provided by your supervisor.
- Troubleshoot billing and accounting issues or discrepancies.
- Communicate with brokers through email/phone in order to resolve payment discrepancies or request further coverage information.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Required Skills
- Ability to comprehend and support both manual and automated processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience handling multiple high priority items simultaneously
- Adherence to quality standards and operating procedures
- Employs time/task management tools and techniques to support a large volume of work
- High attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience documenting and implementing business processes and standards
- Experience with Commercial Property and/or Cyber Insurance
- Knowledge of surplus lines insurance and regulations
- Prior experience with financial products and services
- Foundational knowledge of reinsurance
